Sai Baba Answers on Karma

This conversation, Sai Baba Answers on Karma, unfolds the essence of how our lives are shaped by thoughts, intentions, and actions. Sitting beside the sacred Dhuni, Baba uses timeless metaphors of seeds, birds, and trees to explain the true nature of karma that is beyond mere deeds into the deeper currents of mind and heart. This dialogue urges seekers to question: is karma born only from what we do, or also from what we think and intend? Baba’s words reveal how every layer of human experience contributes to the destiny.

What among these will be attributed to karma, thought, intention, or action?

Our traveller sat beside Baba, watching the slow dance of the Dhuni’s flames. The sacred fire crackled softly, its glow casting long shadows in the quiet evening. The air carried the scent of burning wood and the faint fragrance of incense.

“Baba,” our traveller asked, his voice filled with curiosity, “What is truly considered karma? Is it just action, or do thoughts and intentions also shape it?”

Baba gazed at the fire, then turned His kind eyes toward the traveller. “Tell Me, child, if a seed is planted, when does it become a tree? Is it the moment it is sown, when it begins to sprout, or when it finally bears fruit?”

The traveller pondered for a moment. “I suppose all of it matters… the seed, the sprouting, the growing, the fruiting.”

Baba nodded. “Exactly, Karma is not just the fruit, nor is it only the act of planting. It is the thought that chooses the seed, the intention that places it in the soil, and the action that nurtures it. Everything is linked.”

The traveller looked into Baba’s eyes, realizing the depth of His words. “So, if I merely think of doing something, does it become my karma?”

Baba smiled gently. “A bird may think of flying south for the winter, but until it spreads its wings, the journey does not begin. Thought is the spark, intention is the wind that guides it, and action is the flight itself. Karma is the sum of all three. ”

The Answer

Karma is not just action, but the entire cycle of thought, intention, and action. A thought is like a seed, an intention waters it, and action allows it to bear fruit. Each plays a role, and none can be ignored.

A Final Thought

“If a seed is sown with care, it grows into a tree of shade and nourishment. If sown with neglect, it may grow into thorns. So, should we not be mindful of every seed we plant in our minds and hearts?”
