Jyeshtha Gayatri Jayanti

Sri Gayatri Jayanti is observed as the birth anniversary of Goddess Gayatri Mata, the Goddess of Veda. She is considered as the mother of all Gods and embodiment of Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Parvati and Goddess Lakshmi.

Maa Gayatri Jayanti is observed on Shukla Paksha Ekadashi during Jyeshtha lunar month and it is usually observed on the next day of Ganga Dussehra. This year it’s on June 11th 2022 (in some parts of the world it’s on June 10th).

Note: Sri Gayatri Jayanti is also observed during Shravana Purnima too.

AUM –  The primaeval sound / the seed of manifestation and reabsorption

bhUr –  The physical body/physical realm or jagrat or awakened state of consciousness

bhUvaH: – The mental realm / subtle existence/ swapna or dream state of consciousness

svaH: – The atman/spiritual realm / svarga or sushupti the deep sleep consciousness

Tat: – That / The Absolute Truth / Parabramh

savitruvarenyam – The ultimate intelligence (brightness) from all come to existence 

bhargO – Effulgence (divine light) / that removes the darkness of ignorance or ajna

dEvasya – Parabrahm or the absolute consciouness  

dhImahi – Let our intellect meditate on it (on the absolute truth)

dhiyO yO: The intellect / buddhi (consciousness existing at the physical plane – bhur)

naH: Our; 

prachOdayāt: To propel 

Interpretation 

We meditate upon the ultimate brilliance which is the source of life, Which may propel our mind (buddhi), from the material existence to the subtlest  existence (bhUr, bhUvaH: & svaH:).

Importance Of Sri Gayatri Mantra As Per Sri Bhagavad Gita

Lord Shri Krishna has said in Sri Bhagavad Gita “Gayatri Chandasam Aham” (of poetry I am the Gayatri verse) . In Sanskrit, there are definite rules that regulate poetry; rhyme and metre are not written whimsically, as in much modern poetry. Amongst the regulated poetry, the Gayatri mantra, which is chanted by the duly qualified brahmanas, is the most prominent. The Gayatri mantra is mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Because the Gayatri mantra is especially meant for God realisation, it represents the Supreme Lord. This mantra is meant for spiritually advanced people, and when one attains success in chanting it, he can enter into the transcendental position of the Lord. One must first acquire the qualities of the perfectly situated person, the qualities of goodness according to the laws of material nature, in order to chant the Gayatri mantra. The Gayatri mantra is very important in Vedic civilization and is considered to be the sound incarnation of Brahman. Brahma is its initiator, and it is passed down from him in disciplic succession.

The Gayatri Shakti is a power pervading all the universe. If you establish a relationship with that power, the subtle nature will come under your control. With this, all the treasures connected with body, mind and soul can be obtained. When the nerves join together, that group centre of nerves is called a grandhi (knot). Different forces are concentrated in the various grandhis of the body. When the mantras are chanted by those who are adepts in japa yoga, the forces lying concentrated in grandhis can be manifested.

• Aum :   When this is chanted, power will raise in an area 6 inches above the head;

• Bhū : When this is chanted, power will raise in an area 4 inches above the  right eye;

• Bhuvaha : When this is chanted, power will raise in an area three inches above the third eye of the person;

• Svaha :  When this is chanted, power will raise in an area 4 inches above the left eye.

In this way, there is a close connection between the twenty-four letters of the Gayatri mantra, the twenty-four grandhis located in the various areas of our body and the twenty-four forces concentrated in those grandhis.

In a future post, we will share the relationship of Sri Gayatri mantra which has 24 letters and the special magical number 2498 which denotes Lord Srīpāda Vallabha where Number nine indicates the changeless nature of Brahma and Number eight indicates the nature of illusion.
